Melissa McCarthy tells Ellen “We tear down women in this country”
Our June cover girl addresses rampant sexism in the film industry with the most amazing response for her critic.

Our cover girl Melissa McCarthy is kicking goals left, right and centre!

In response to a reporter’s comments about her role in Tammy, McCarthy came face to face with her critic on the red carpet, with more than a few wise words to say.

Whilst McCarthy could have easily lambasted the close-minded reporter for rehashing sexist criticism, the actress instead chose to change the course of this man’s thought process, by placing his prejudice in context of his own family.

McCarthy relayed the encounter on Ellen last night and in doing so, maintained hope that by changing one person’s mind, we can change them all.

“I said [to him], just know that every time you write stuff every young girl in this country reads that, and they just get a little bit chipped away. I just think that we tear down women in this country for all these superficial reasons and women are so great and strong and I think he really heard that.”

“I think it’s a bad habit that we’ve gotten into, and it’s not that people are malicious. I just think it’s so easy to take a swipe, and I’m like, “just go the other way!”
