Heston Blumenthal is moving his Fat Duck restaurant and all its staff to Melbourne for six months in an unprecedented world first.

The celebrity chef phenomenon continues, with Melbourne set to house Heston Blumenthal’s first international restaurant, the three Michelin starred, The Fat Duck. Moving into the city’s Crown Towers resort next February, The Fat Duck’s temporary ‘relocation’ to Melbourne coincides with its 20th anniversary. Blumenthal will take his whole Fat Duck team from Bray with him to the Victorian capital in one of the riskiest restaurant moves we’ve ever seen. In another sense, it’s a great way for Blumenthal to test the waters and see if his molecular concept will take off in the Melbourne market. Once The Fat Duck moves back to its UK home, it will be replaced with Heston and Group Executive Head Chef Ashley Palmer-Watts’s Dinner by Heston Blumenthal. But while it’s at Melbourne, diners will be privy to the exact dining experience that has earned The Fat Duck three Michelin stars in Bray, 11 years previously, including the full Tasting Menu, relaxed yet flawless service and the sensory journey the celebrity chef is renowned for.
