5 ways to create your own daily pampering retreat at home
Taking time out of your day to relax, revitalise and nourish your body can be challenging, so try allowing just 15 minutes.

Life has been hard enough lately. Here are five simple steps to ensure harmony, rejuvenation and wellbeing for your body.

1.Take a 15 minute break from the office desk and enjoy an aerobic activity. Lack of exercise can decrease circulation and lower the levels of nutrients in the blood, leading to arthritis and joint problems. This can be avoided with a brisk walk, jogging on the spot or simply moving between floors by taking the stairs. Better yet, take a friend with you and share a funny story on your walk – laughter has been proven to benefit our overall wellbeing.

2.Grab an antioxidant boost. Take time off to indulge in fresh seasonal fruit rich in antioxidants such as blueberries and cherries. Antioxidants are great for prevention of diseases like heart disease and cancers, as well as boosting your energy levels. For an easy boost combine blueberries, cherries and strawberries with natural yoghurt and a dash of honey – then top it off with a squeeze of lime.

3. Go nuts! Nuts have many essential nutrients and fatty acids like omega 3 and 6. They have a good level of amino acid arginine which helps relax and open blood flow which is beneficial for your heart. High in fibre and rich in protein, nuts benefit almost every part of your body. Tip – avoid peanuts as they contain a mould that can be damaging to your liver in high doses.

4. For the busy stay-at-home mums get active with gardening, amongst the fresh air and sunshine all while keeping your bones healthy. Gardening is a weight bearing activity which helps build bone density and can potentially prevent osteoporosis. Other weight bearing activities include walking, tai chi and tennis.

5. Finally, take 15 minutes out of your day to live in the present. Meditate outside, sit down and appreciate nature and focus on the beauty in your life. It is important to spend time outdoors for benefits to mental and physical health as well as taking time to breathe deeply and relax.
