The retired vehicles will be converted into homeless shelters, that’s if architecture firm Group 70 International is successful in it’s bid to have the project go ahead.
Designed so they can be built by untrained volunteers, the group hopes to build one homeless bus shelter every weekend over summer.
“It’s based on the premise that you could walk in to a hardware store, buy everything you need in one go and build everything with no trade skills,” a spokesperson told local reporters.
Different units dedicated to different purposes, from living spaces to recreation rooms.
Close to 70 buses and all the material required for renovations will be donated. Volunteers will strip the interior and renovate the buses, which will function as a mobile fleet.
Some will be used for living spaces, others for showers, and others as recreation rooms.
