Emma Thompson speaks out against sexism in hollywood
Actress Emma Thompson joins a long line of women pushing for change in the acting industry.

In a recent interview, actress Emma Thompson spoke about the dearth of opportunities for women that have been spurred on by entrenched and ongoing sexism within the acting industry.

“I don’t think there’s any appreciable improvement and I think that for women, the question of how they are supposed to look is worse than it was even when I was young. So, no, I am not impressed at all!”

Although Thompson admitted she used to be hopeful about opportunities and possibilities available to women in the industry, she now has grim outlook for the future – should popular mentality maintain its sexist direction.

“When I was younger, I really did think we were on our way to a better world and when I look at it now, it is in a worse state than I have known…sexism and unpleasantness to women have become more entrenched and indeed more prevalent.”

Thompson  joins a large list of women who have spoken out against the prejudice so heavily entrenched within the acting industry. With women like Amy Schumer, Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep and Maggie Gyllenhaal, continuing to place onus on the directors and executives of  hollywood, the gender gap is being constantly criticised and lambasted in the spotlight – where it needs to be.
