Emily McDowell makes a living out of the awkward
L.A. based artist Emily McDowell has made a business out of life's awkward situations.

In 2011, Emily McDowell walked away from her full-time career at an advertising agency to pursue her love of creative writing and typography, creating prints and later, selling them via online marketplace Etsy.

“I launched my line of 45 cards at the National Stationery Show in May 2013, and every day since has been an adventure. An amazing, crazy, learning-curve-tastic adventure,” writes L.A based McDowell on her website.

“My work reflects our shared human experience, in all its different, messy forms, and I feel most satisfied when something I made helps somebody feel like someone else out there gets them.”

McDowell’s laugh-out-loud twist on traditional Hallmark cards are best described as articulate ramblings. Rather than conventional, neat greeting card messaging, her’s are heartfelt musings that pen what we are all actually thinking, if not out loud.
