Hairdressers know how to party

By Donna Duggan

What better way to spend a wet and stormy Monday, than at the Schwarzkopf Hair Expo awards?

This week I attended my first ever Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Awards. It was held on a wet and stormy Monday night on the June long weekend so I did find it a little challenging to get out of my pjs and frock up, but I am certainly glad I did.

As I waited for Editor-in-chief Michael McHugh in the foyer of the Sydney Convention Centre I witnessed a stream of flamboyant, wild and utterly fabulous hair styles and outfits strut their way into the function hall.  The night is not only to award the best in the hair business in both New Zealand and Australia, but also to give everyone in this creative industry a chance to kick up their heels. And that’s exactly what they did.

Michael and I sat on a table with part of the Schwarzkopf contingent from New Zealand and the excitement levels were high. As well as the awards, Schwarzkopf also staged a brilliant catwalk showcasing some of the hair trends we will be seeing in the year ahead including strong geometric cuts with block colours, as well as soft and floaty feminine looks.

Congratulations to all the winners.
