In these remarkably intimate portraits, Brad Pitt has captured the essence of his family, whilst holidaying in the South of France.

Speaking in a frank interview with W magazine some years ago, Jolie revealed her love of watching her husband enact his passions.

“I love his photography,” she says. “Some people have a hobby, and they find the quickest way to it and are very pleased with the outcome right away. But he’s someone who will really study the camera—he’ll get the most complicated one and really understand the science behind it. And he’s very critical of his own work. I’ll see a photograph and think it’s amazing, but he’ll see all the different reasons why it can be better, and he’ll work very, very hard to improve it.”

These pictures in particular were taken just weeks after their twins were born. Commissioned by the magazine, Pitt’s project sprang from a conversation W’s Creative Director Dennis Freedman had with photographer, Bruce Weber. The pair had commented that the most beautiful pictures of Elizabeth Taylor were the ones taken by her third husband, Mike Todd.

Freedman spoke about the enthusiastic response he received from Brad, saying it was unexpected:

“Last time we collaborated, I was struck by his sensitivity to the subtleties of photography. I knew that he possessed a highly tuned critical eye and would be very demanding of himself. Still, I wasn’t prepared for the beauty and intimacy of the images he made of Angelina and the children.”

The results, we think, speak for themselves.
