First there was the cronut, now meet the waffogato

Meet the “waffogato”, Dominique Ansel’s next bakery buzz item.

Not one to sit idly for too long, the French-hailing New York-based pastry chef is at it again. The famous cronut creator recently debuted the cult-amassing milk and cookies at SXSW and this time, he’s taken on the beloved waffle.

As the name suggests, the waffogato is an affogato-inspired dessert comprised of a waffle made from vanilla ice-cream, with Belgian waffle bits throughout it (so, not really a waffle at all), doused in a hot maple syrup espresso.

“It’s a little like a milkshake at the end,” Ansel told the Wall Street Journal.

Yum!

The breakfast-themed treat will be making its delicious debut at a hunger relief fundraiser in New York City this week.

Available at Ansel’s eponymous Soho bakery from May 9, we’re sure the waffogato will have the same cronut-sized effect on locals and tourists; if its predecessors are anything to go by, New York’s underground food tourism market is about to boom once more!
