Autumn trends

The change of season, from summer to autumn, calls for a new, warm and earthy hair colour, Julianne Liebeck blog on MiNDFOOD.

Autumn is the season of warm, earthy colours. As a stylist, it’s my favourite time of the year.

The shift in season, from summer to autumn, is visually noticeable, so why not change your look to match.

Some believe that you should go blonder in the summer and darker in autumn and winter but if you like breaking the rules go in the other direction.

At Mods we’re loving the new bleach blonde – it’s high impact and not so damaging, especially with all the new gentle blonding powders on the market.

If you find deciding on a colour problematic don’t let that stop you. Trust your stylist or colourist and they will suggest different combinations to suit you. What matters most is that the colour surrounding the face contrasts from your skin tone.

So here are some guidelines for autumn and winter hues:

Fair porcelain complexions

Sandy pinks and beige blondes with blue and pink undertones; as well as natural or sexy blonde (platinum).

Medium complexions

Dark blondes with highlight and lowlights; tawny browns with beige and caramel highlights; or auburn.

Tan complexions

Deep browns and chocolates with mixers of red lights.

Olive complexions

Plum tones or chocolate browns with light golden brown; deep reds over deep shimmer browns; or cool brunettes. The key here is to use the balayage technique for lightening.

Dark complexions

Dark brunettes with bronze lights and tones or deep reds.
