Diane Keaton on love, life & regrets

Diane Keaton wears her heart on her sleeve. The Annie Hall legend is an open book when it comes to talking aboutt her former lovers, regrets, and life lessons she wish she had learned earlier.

Keaton is set to star in the new blockbuster comedy, The Big Wedding, an event she herself never experienced. The 67-year-old Oscar winner never married, despite having a string of famous lovers over the years, including Al Pacino, Warren Beatty, and probably her most famous flame – Woody Allen.

“At 18, I spent too long worrying and obsessing over men,” Keaton told The Sun.

“I think it might have been a problem of my generation, growing up in the 1950s. You were “picked” by a man. You were “chosen”. You can’t imagine that attitude today – or, at least, I hope you can’t.

In 1996 at the age of 50, Keaton adopted daughter Dexter, now 18, and then Duke, 12, in 2001. The actress admits to having loved Al Pacino (who she met on the set of The Godfather and worked with again on the sequel), for 20 years.

“I wanted to marry Al Pacino. But even if I had got what I wanted, I doubt it would have been a happy marriage. I really loved him.”

Keaton admits to giving Pacino an ultimatum to marry her, which resulted in him breaking up with her two months after her father passed away.

She also admits that she still loves Allen, but that her “bad managerial skills” prohibited her from making it down the aisle.

Now a happy single mother, Keaton says that while her life has been full, it is lacking in romantic love… but that this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
