Plane engine catches fire after leaving Perth airport
A plane has caught fire shortly after departing Perth Airport in Western Australia this morning.

Witnesses have reported seeing a fire in one of the aircraft engines of the plane shortly after it took off from Perth’s domestic airport at around 10.30am (AWST) this morning.

Luckily the plane managed to turn around and make an emergency landing at the same airport.

Local police have confirmed that emergency services were stood down and that airport fire services will examine the plane to investigate what caused the fire.

The Cobham Aviation flight was destined for Barrow Island and was carrying 93 passengers on board.

A local radio station reported that passengers onboard saw sparks and started yelling at the flight attendants to get their attention.

They praised the pilot for a quick and well-handled emergency landing but many were not ken to board a plane soon.

Cobham Aviation, which operates aircraft on behalf of Qantas regional subsidiary QantasLink have confirmed they will release more details shortly.
