Pet Check-In

Pet Check-In
Pet Check-in is a simple and hassle free way for pet owners to search, compare and book the best pet boarding facilities when they travel.

Australia has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world, with an estimated 33 million pets nationwide (more than the Australian human population).

What’s even more incredible is that 80 per cent of Australian pet owners would rather alter or cancel their travel plans if they couldn’t make suitable arrangements for their dogs, as revealed by a 2011 study conducted by Hanrob Pet Hotels.

According to Australian Companion Animal Council (ACAC) there are 1241 dog boarding facilities and 1297 cat boarding facilities across the country and they estimate that ‘pet parents’ spend approximately $474 annually on pet boarding and minding.

Now a new website called Pet Check-in has launched to provide a simple and hassle free way for pet owners to search, compare and book the best pet boarding facilities when they travel.

Waiting for inspiration to strike

Frequent traveller and founder, Gareth Brock, experienced the angst and frustrations that ‘pet parents’ face when he tried to find reputable accommodation for his beloved dog, Ebony a Parsian Russell Terrier x Alsatian.

After speaking with other pet owners Gareth found he wasn’t alone. Over 85 per cent of ‘Pet Parents’ lacked the trust, confidence and time finding the right facility for their pet, which often caused anxiety and guilt when they had to go away and leave their pet behind. Some pet owners even cut their trip short not confident their pet was getting the best care.

To answer this Pet Check-in has started to search Australia wide to find only the top, most reputable pet boarding facilities for dogs and cats. Each pet boarding facility on Pet Check-in is audited on 10 criteria developed in consultation with Animal Welfare League Australia so pet owners can travel with peace of mind knowing their pet is safe, secure and happy. These guidelines are used by independent auditors when they visit each facility before they can be included on the Pet Check-in website. Each facility is also mystery shopped twice a year to ensure standards are maintained.

Pet owners can easily search online for pet boarding facilities on location, availability, rating or price. Pet owners who have booked through the site are encouraged to share their first hand experiences with other pet owners through a review and ensures the Pet Check-In Team are getting reliable and accurate reviews – providing pet owners peace of mind and confidence when selecting a pet boarding facility.

The site has also partnered up with charity organistaion, the Australian Welfare League (AWL).

The AWL is committed to not only improving animal welfare in the community but also reducing the abandonment and euthanasia rate of domesticated animals.

Sadly, they often see that with key holiday periods comes a spike in the number of abandoned animals that end up at their shelters as some pet owners find it too hard to find suitable care for their pet.

Thankfully, Pet Check-in are driven to change this and have a goal to donate $150,000 to AWL annually to help with their own goals and missions. By booking through Pet Check-in you not only have peace of mind knowing your pet is well cared for, but you are also contributing to pets less fortunate than your furry friend!
