Newlywed at 90: Meet Vivian and Alice
After over 70 years together, two Iowan women have finally tied the knot in a private ceremony last Saturday at the First Christian Church in Davenport.

Surrounded by close friends and family, the couple exchanged vows side-by-side in their wheelchairs.

“This is a celebration of something that should have happened a very long time ago,” said Reverand Linda Hunsaker who conducted the ceremony.

Vivian Boyack and Alice Dubes first met in Yale 71 years ago and have remained strong ever since, having traveled across Europe and through every US state (except Alaska) alongside each other. “I felt like I was in a dream… We do hope we have a few more years, but if we don’t it’s a real closing for us,” told Vivian.

The newlyweds have been blown away at the amount of support they have received in the past few days: “it’s been crazy, we didn’t realise people cared that much about us,” Vivian added.

Same-sex marriage has been legal in Iowa since 2009.
