Lounging around with Selling Dreams
We take a look at the Auckland Museum's Selling Dreams: 100 Years of Fashion Photography exhibition.

Sitting alongside the V&A’s Selling Dreams: 100 Years of Fashion Photography exhibition, Auckland Museum has created a lounge space where you can immerse yourself in glossy fashion tomes, sit in on fashion and photography talks or flick through a collection of images that tell New Zealand’s own ‘selling dreams’ story.

The lounge will be stocked with the latest fashion magazines and books, from new local releases FOUREYES – New Zealand Street Style and Karen Inderbitzen-Waller’s Smoke & Mirrors to international titles such as Architect of Dreams which looks at Olivier Massart’s incredible work creating fashion shows and special events for Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, Moët & Chandon, Guerlain, Christian Dior and Cartier.

One of New Zealand’s own creative minds Inderbitzen-Waller has styled and shot the image which covers the lounge feature wall. Working with the museum’s curatorial, display and exhibition teams she has created an image which juxtaposes an historic window with chairs from the applied arts and design collections. For anyone who hankers after a taste of life as the model, the museum is encouraging visitors to use the photographic backdrop as their place to pose.

Adding to the opulent style of the lounge space are the luxe chairs and lighting supplied by ECC Lighting & Furniture.

The five-part Smart Talk series runs every Wednesday evening from 29 January to 26 February 2014. Doors open at 6pm so you can see the Selling Dreams exhibition after hours and listen to a line-up of fashion, photography and “Selling Dreams” experts including Karen Inderbitzen-Waller, FOUREYES street style bloggers, London’s V&A Selling Dreams curator Susanna Brown and V&A assistant curator Anisa Hawes.
