Hidden Messages in Reflective Art
These neon signs reveal profound hidden messages in their reflection

In his latest exhibition at Avant Gallery in Miami, award-winning Colombian director and artist Camilo Matiz uses the simple technique of reflection to create thought-provoking pieces.

Titled Here Not There, Matiz’s neon light and mirror sculptures confront the viewer with the duality of who they are and how they perceive themselves. The same object displays differently in the mirror’s reflection offering a counterpoint to the original message perceived.

Matiz’s work has been shown in international art exhibitions including Scope, Miami and Barcu Art Fair, Bogota. In 2009, his artistic film, “1989,” achieved the Official Selection in Semaine de la Critique in Cannes as the closing film for the festival.
