Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin ‘uncoupling’
US actress Gwyenth Paltrow and her muso husband Chris Martin are embarking on a 'conscious uncoupling' after a decade of marriage.

What is ‘conscious uncoupling’ you may ask?

According to a statement on Paltrow’s website while the couple is separating they will remain a family, co-parenting their two young children, Apple and Moses.

“It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate,” the couple’s statement reads.

“We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.”

“We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.”

The very honest and open announcement was signed simply “Love, Gwyenth and Chris.”

From the statement it is obvious that this conscious decision to uncouple has been made with much mutual respect and love – quite unusual for such big name celebrities.

Paltrow, 41 and Martin, 37 were married in December 2003.

Interestingly, the Los-Angeles born actress has been named by US magazines, People and Star, as both as ‘the world’s most beautiful woman” and the “most hated celebrity”.

US Vanity Fair were rumoured to be working on an essay documenting this “love/hate” phenomenon, but found themselves engaged in a  dispute with Paltrow for almost a year.

Last month, the magazine’s editor, Graydon Carter wrote a 1,500 word essay, explaining his decision not to run the Gwyneth piece he commissioned, to readers.

Paltrow has been very frank about  the state of her marriage struggles. In fact only last year, she told Glamour magazine that she and Martin had been through ‘terrible times’ together ‘the same as any couple’.
