International human rights lawyer Amal Clooney is set to teach a semester at the Colombia Law School in  New York.

“It is an honor to be invited as a visiting professor at Columbia Law School alongside such a distinguished faculty and talented student pool,” Clooney said in a statement. “I look forward to getting to know the next generation of human rights advocates studying here.”

The co-director of Columbia’s Human Rights Institute, Professor Sarah Cleveland, said Clooney’s “extensive experience” would enrich Columbia’s students.

According to the school’s website the course that Clooney will teach over the spring term is called “L6276: Human Rights” and will cover international human rights and issues including women’s rights, LGBT rights and the death penalty.

It is believed that Clooney’s husband, George, will follow his wife to America (the couple live in London) as he will be filming his latest project, Movie Monster, in New York.

Many a quip has been made about George Clooney’s brilliant barrister wife and her actor husband. George Clooney joined in on the joke at an event last week. After accidentally saying that the charity had helped children in over 500 countries, he laughed and said, “My wife’s the smart one”.

Amal Clooney is admitted to the London and New York bar and has represented the likes of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and Yulia Tymoshenko, a former prime minister of Ukraine, as well as working as the former adviser to the United Nations secretary general, Kofi Annan.
