Interpretive exercise
I thought I would share with you other sports haters like me who want something different when it comes to exercise...

Sports. I've tried them all.

I tried to be a runner but my knees hurt,

I tried to become a swimmer but I hate water in my ears,

Tried soccer but I run away from the ball. I don't want to get kicked in the shins!

I let the team down in volleyball "Emma!! The ball goes OVER the net!!!!"

I can't catch (or throw) the ball in cricket, and don't even get me started on frisbee.

It's safe to say I'm not sporty. But ironically, I do love exercise! I was talking to my friend who said I'm a 'weird-erciser' and I guess I do like 'unconventional exercise' beyond Zumba and Pump.

So I thought I would share them with you for other sports haters like me who want something different when it comes to exercise...

Future Sound of Yoga

A fusion of music, yoga and dance, led by the beautiful Angel with her husband Matt on DJ decks. The 90 minute class starts with a gentle warm up, followed by an hour of yoga to ambient music like portishead and moby, then the lights are dimmed, the smoke machine fills the room, the glow sticks are cracked and everyone dances how they feel to high energy music like the chemical brothers. It's so liberating! Some people roll around on the floor, others shake their booty and others just jump around! It's the most fun I've ever had exercising and the best sweat-tastic work out!

Yoga Chakra Dance

Feeling a bit "spiritual" I decided to give it a go. The class is spent mostly in the floor doing stretching poses with flowing movements to open up the chakra. There's a lot of body caressing and slapping to release joints, some 'ommmming' and strange pelvis thrusting moves that release stress and worry. Though it's not a high energy cardio class, it's great for flexibility and mental wellbeing.

Fire Twirling

After watching a Byron Bay hippy one New Year's Eve twirling firelit poi, I was mesmerised and decided that I had to learn. Classes are actually a great work for your arms, back and shoulders. Your brain gets a good workout too as learning the tricky weaving patterns takes a lot of practise. Once you get more confident you can move around and even turn it into dance with music. And yep, I still have all my hair. No accidents... yet!

Does anyone else do any "weird-ercises" I could try?

Oh, I love poi! I also have done pilates, ceroc (a modern jive style), and Brazilian dance and capoeira... but what I really love is circus arts. Great exercise. If you enjoy poi, you may like it too. I do acrobalance, aerial silks and contortion. Thinking of picking up trapeze or lyra too and I'm dying to try swinging cloud swing - if only there were more aerial schools that offer it!
