Nature at its finest

Nature at its finest

Incredible footage of whales swimming under the incredible northern lights, off the coast of the island Kvaløya, near the city Tromsø, has been captured by photographer, Harald Albrigtsen.

The spectacular sight of humpback whales feeding under the spellbinding glow of the aurora borealis in Norway has captured the world’s attention, but was almost never recorded at all.

“I suddenly came across a group of humpback whales that were playing in the Northern Lights,” Albrigtsen told NRK, a Norwegian broadcasting service. “I went back the next day to see if I could come closer. After a few hours I had almost given up, but then they showed up again.”

“It was a great feeling when I saw that I had managed to capture the whales under the Northern Lights for two days in a row. I didn’t even know if they were in focus.”

The aurora borealis, which is most frequently spotted between the months of September and March in the northern hemisphere, provided the perfect backdrop for Albrigtsen’s incredible photography. Captured in low light, the video is able to depict the nature surrounding the phenomenon in beautiful clarity.
