Tried & Tested: Pores be gone

MiNDFOOD's Milly Nolan tests six of the best products that promise to minimise, camouflage and refine visible pores.

EmerginC

Red Carpet Primer, $60

The lovely texture of this tinted primer absorbed easily into
my skin (a little goes a long way), creating a smooth and flawless
base for foundation application. My pores were minimised, my
skin tone evened and any fine lines hidden. As the name suggests, this is the perfect product for priming the skin before an important event, as its plant-based formula and infusion of vitamin C work
to hydrate, brighten and plump the skin.

Shiseido

Pore Smoothing Corrector, $40

Formulated with oil-absorbing powders, this creamy gel is designed for combination-to-oily skin types, helping to minimise shine as well as pores. Rubbed into the skin in circular motions, it left my skin feeling smooth (making foundation application a dream, as well improving its staying power), while my pores were reduced and my complexion evened in tone.

Yves Saint Laurent

Top Secrets Pore Refining Skincare Brush, $88

Touted as an SOS treatment, this salicylic-acid-formulated product certainly lives up to its reputation. Designed for combination skin and those who are prone to imperfections, it left my skin looking flawless. I found that with just a sweep of the brush, shiny areas were made matt, enlarged pores were refined and blemishes seemed to miraculously vanish.

Dermalogica

Skin Refining Masque, $59

Paste-like in texture, this purifying mask is formulated with bentonite and kaolin clays, which help absorb excess oil, refine pores and clear congestion. After five minutes of wearing the mask, my face felt very tight, yet when the product was washed off, my skin was left plump and smooth, and enlarged pores were noticeably reduced. The soothing extracts of mallow, arnica and cucumber also helped refresh my skin.

Clinique

Pore Minimizer, $52

This thick, white clay-based mask sets quickly on the skin (so much so that it’s hard to even crack a smile!), helping to open pores and dislodge debris so that the skin is left clean, polished and free of excess oil. Once the mask was washed off with warm water, my skin felt and looked much brighter and cleaner, and my pores were noticeably minimised.

Napoleon

Auto Pilot Pore Minimizer
and Mattifier, $65

The go-to product for those with oily skin, this popular primer has a gel-like formula that absorbed easily into my skin. It instantly reduced the appearance of pores while simultaneously mopping up excess oil on my T-zone. According to Napoleon Perdis, this product can be used throughout the day (applied over foundation)
to keep shine at bay.
