Three police officers have been shot dead in the US city of Baton Rouge, and three more have been injured, after a gunfight.
Police say one suspect is dead and two others may be at large, with the motive for the attack not known.
Baton Rouge was where Alton Sterling was killed by police two weeks ago, sparking protests.
However those leading Black Lives Matter protests have strongly condemned the shooting.
“The movement began as a call to end violence,” prominent Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson told the New York Times on Sunday. “That call remains.”
President Barack Obama condemned the shooting “in the strongest sense of the word”, calling it “a cowardly and reprehensible assault”.
“These are attacks on public servants, on the rule of law, and on civilized society, and they have to stop,” he said in a statement. “We may not yet know the motives for this attack, but I want to be clear: there is no justification for violence against law enforcement. None.”
