Sherrill Towner, international training manger for Dr. LeWinn’s, offers advice on cosmeceuticals, MiNDFOOD reports.

How would you define cosmeceuticals?

Cosmeceuticals are a union between cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.

Cosmeceuticals refers to a skin treatment that provides added benefits beyond a simple cosmetic or moisturiser, a formulation between cosmetics and pharmaceuticals which will improve the appearance of the skin by delivering cutting edge ingredients promoting healthy youthful skin.

Are cosmeceuticals best suited to a particular age or skin type?

Cosmeceuticals are suited to all skin types and ages, addressing skincare concerns, such as:

Thinning skin

The result of the ageing process, years of exposure to the sun and hormonal decline.

Dr. LeWinn’s suggests

Prevention is better than cure; therefore it is important to use a broad spectrum sunscreen everyday such as Dr. LeWinn’s Facial Moisturising Lotion SPF 30+ which will protect the skin from the damaging effects of UVA and UVB rays.

Dr. LeWinn’s Ultra R4 range contains patented Palmitoyl Tripeptide-3, proven to dramatically reduce the signs of age-related collagen depletion, and with regular use will leave your skin smooth, supple and radiant.

Dull skin

A common sign of ageing caused by the build up of dead skin cells.

Dr. LeWinn’s suggests

Using a natural AHA based product, such as Dr. LeWinn’s Skin Renewal with Fruit Extracts, to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells, to reveal a brighter, more radiant complexion.

Drier skin

With age our skin becomes drier and the production of sebum also decreases.

Dr. LeWinn’s suggests

Incorporating a hydrator into your skincare routine such as Dr. LeWinn’s Line Smoothing Complex S8 Super Hydrator will not only maintain skin hydration but will improve the absorption of your moisturiser.

Fine lines and wrinkles

Fine lines and wrinkles are the first signs of ageing resulting from everyday lifestyle and emotions.

Dr. LeWinn’s suggests

Dr. LeWinn’s Line Smoothing Plus range contains potent, anti-wrinkle ingredients proven to help reduce the appearance of expression lines and provide intense nourishment to the skin.

Sagging

As we age, our skin loses elasticity due to the depletion of collagen and elastin production resulting in sagging.

Dr. LeWinn’s suggests

Dr. LeWinn’s Ultra R4 range contains “pro-collagen” and “pro-elastin” peptides to help boost the natural production of collagen, improving the skin’s firmness and tone. Dr. LeWinn’s Cosmetic Lift, the non-surgical facelift, will assist in giving your skin a firmer, radiant and more toned complexion.

Brown spots

An accumulation of melanin caused by sun exposure. Other discolorations’ may be due to hormones or certain medications.

Dr. LeWinn’s suggests

Prevention is the best approach; simply apply a broad spectrum sunscreen daily, such as Dr. LeWinn’s Facial Moisturising Lotion SPF 30+. An AHA treatment such as Dr. LeWinn’s Skin Renewal with Fruit Extracts will assist in fading sun spots and pigmentation.
