Oscars 2013: Memorable Quotes

It was a night of mishaps, revelry, and – in true Oscars style – inappropriate jabs. Here's our compilation of the night's best quotes.

Oscars 2013: Memorable Quotes

“Welcome to the Oscars, and the quest to make Tommy Lee Jones laugh.”
— Academy Awards host Seth MacFarlane, who succeeds in his mission with this opening line.

“There was a lot of controversy over the multiple uses of the ‘N word’ in the film. I’m told the film was loosely based on Mel Gibson’s voice mail.”
— MacFarlane, about best picture nominee Django Unchained.

“I thank everyone in the movie. I want to thank Canada. I want to thank our friends in Iran living in terrible circumstances right now. I want to thank my wife, who I don’t normally associate with Iran, but I want to thank you for working on our marriage for 10 Christmases. It is work but it is the best kind of work, and there’s no one I’d rather work with.”
– Best Picture Oscar winner Ben Affleck.

“She said to me, I really hope I don’t lose to that old lady … Jennifer Lawrence.”

—MacFarlane, about 9-year-old Beasts star Wallis.

“Since we got married 16 years ago, my wife Rebecca has lived with some very strange men … She’s been a perfect companion to all of them.”

Lincoln best actor winner Daniel Day-Lewis, thanking his wife during his acceptance speech.

“You have to work harder than you think you possibly can. You can’t hold grudges. It’s hard but you can’t hold grudges. And it doesn’t matter how knocked down you get in life because that’s going to happen. All that matters is that you gotta get up.”
Argo producer & director Ben Affleck, on winning best picture.

“When I read the script for the first time, I realised that there was something special about this film. I know Quentin (Tarantino), and I read the pages more or less as they came out
of the printer. Page by page I realized that something special is in the making… I am in awe of the people who work or are in my category.  So, the very fact that I am one of them would have … meant the world … Robert De Niro, Alan Arkin are role models for me since I started in this profession.”
– Christoph Waltz, Best Supporting Actor Winner, Django Unchained.

And finally, Best Actress winner Jennifer Lawrence, pulling out some pearlers

“I’m starving! Is there food here?”
 — Lawrence, on the red carpet.
“Thank you. You guys are just standing up because you feel bad that I fell and that’s really embarrassing, but thank you. This is nuts!” – Lawrence, again on the red carpet.

“I’m just cross-eyed. The process today was so stressful. I felt like Steve Martin from Father of the Bride watching my whole house being torn apart.” – Lawrence, fronting media backstage after her win.

When asked if she is worried that her career may be peaking early, Lawrence said: “I mean, who knows? I guess we’ll see. Well, now I am.”
