Inner Strength

MiNDFOOD recently hosted a lunch with Shiseido and invited four readers to discuss beauty from within.

The readers had spent the past four weeks trialing Shiseido’s new Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate, a serum that seeks to strengthen the skin from the inside, so it’s better protected against, and able to repair damage caused by environmental and emotional stress.

Stress is said to increase skin aging, because the cells are less able to fight damage. Ultimune is based on Shiseido laboratories’ 20-plus years research into skin immunity, and the discovery that the Langerhans cells which control it can be weakened by external and internal stress.

The complex at the heart of Ultimune is said to directly enhance the function of immunity-related cells, making the skin stronger and better able to fight against damage.

Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate is an inclusive product, designed for use by all ages, ethnicities and skin types. “I think we [all] have to be happy with what we’ve got,” reader Julie Gin (62) told us.

After the four-week trial of Ultimune, all our readers said that their skin felt great. “It was like covering your skin with silk, it really sank in and wasn’t greasy at all,” said Ursula Cranmer (53), of her first impressions of the serum.

At the end of the four weeks, Leah Damm (25), told us she noticed the firmness of her skin had improved, and Jayne Quaife (47), commented that she could even go to the supermarket or on a run without make-up on and still feel good. Feeling comfortable in your own skin, what could be more positive than that?

Edible Beauty Oils

Including some of the following oils in your diet can improve skin, hair, nails and overall health.

Borage Seed Oil is used for its abundant dietary, health, cosmetic and medicinal benefits. Used to treat skin disorders including eczema and dermatitis, it is also used to eliminate stress, premenstrual syndrome, diabetes, and attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder.

Evening Primrose Oil. By working to dilute sebum, the thick oily substance that is over-secreted when acne occurs, the essential fatty acids in evening primrose oil reduce the risk of pores becoming clogged and spots developing. The oil’s EFAs help to treat rosacea by reducing inflammation and stimulating the contraction of blood vessels.

Fish Oils, whether you take them in capsule form or via fresh salmon, are the best way to nourish your skin from the inside out. A rich, nutrient-dense dose of omega3 will plump and smooth your skin, giving a radiant glow.

Avocado oil. Said to be the healthiest oil to cook with, rich in monounsaturated fatty acids and extremely low in saturated fat, avocado oil is also high in vitamin E.

Udo’s Choice Perfected (Ultimate) 3, 6, 9 Oil Blend is a certified organic blend of guaranteed GMO-free, unrefined edible oils. This blend is rich in GMO-free lecithin, which provides the building materials for healthy cell membranes. Vitamin E and rosemary oil, both potent antioxidants, are added to increase freshness and to act as scavengers of free radical molecules in the body.
