Home Colouring tips with Schwarzkopf’s Grant Withnell

Schwarzkopf national technical educator Grant Withnell is larger-than-life and bursting with knowledge about hair. Here Grant shares some unique tips with MiNDFOOD, on getting more from your home colouring experience…

• For women with silver hair, mix a silver toner with champagne to add a beige blonde tone to the hair.

• If you’ve coloured your hair with a semi-permanent, and after a few washes want to return to your original base colour, mix an anti-dandruff shampoo with some bicarbonate of soda and cleanse the hair with it. This also works well as a deep cleanse when you’ve styled your hair with a lot of hairspray.

• If you’re using a silver toner on a pre-lightened hair that’s porous and grabby of colour, mix the toner with conditioner to dilute it and tone down the end result.

• Schwarzkopf Live Colour Ultra Brights is a range of semi-permanent colours that last up to eight washes, and are almost like a conditioner with a bit of colour added, $8.99.

Hair Colour Trends

With Spring not too far away and holding promises of new growth and warmer, brighter days you may also feel like some transformation of your own. One of the easiest ways to update your look is to tweak your hair colour. Joh Bailey, leading hairdresser and TRESemme Stylist, shares his colour trends for Spring Summer 2013/2014.

1. Don’t be afraid to show a little root this season think light blonde with dark roots – this style can be a little drying on your ends so it is important to use a really good conditioner like TRESemmé Keratin Smooth and leave it in for a few minutes, just to keep your hair looking fresh and healthy!

2. The ombre trend is very much still alive – stay on trend by keeping the changes in colour subtle and natural. Add warmer tones through the ends to ready your hair for summer – this colour looks great when worn carefree and wavy.

3. Super glossy and warm hues s perfect for summer, think soft honey, caramel and auburn. Keep your locks super shiny by spritizing the air with Keratin Smooth Heat Protection Shine Spray before styling.
