Five Aussie restaurants make the Elite Traveller 100 list
Sydney's Marque restaurant and Melbourne's Attica are among the 5 Aussie restaurants that made the Elite 100 cut.

Sydney’s Marque restaurant – headed by Mark Best –  led the Aussie pack, coming in at number 35, followed by Ben Shewry’s Attica in Melbourne which made it at 56.

Shannon Bennett’s Vue De Monde was next in Melbourne, which followed hot on Attica’s heels at 58, with Sydney mainstay Tetsuya next. Peter Gilmore’s Quay also made its debut at 88th place.

Unlike the experts panel that judges the S Pellegrino Best Restaurants List, the Elite one is considered more ‘demographic’, based on diner votes and the feedback of Elite’s readers (the reader profile of the mag is affluent jet-setters with a palate for expensive things).

Topping the list for the third year in a row was Chicago restaurant Alinea, followed by New York’s famed DANIEL, Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck in Bray (which this week announced it was heading to Melbourne for six months next year), Eleven Madison New York, and fellow Big Apple resident Le Bernadin. Spain’s El Celler de can Roca (the world’s best restaurant according to the S. Pellegrino List) was number six.
