Darwin International Film Festival announce program

The annual Darwin International Film Festival has kicked off with a program launch under the stars.

This years program will see 13 films having their NT premier at Darwin International Film Festival, including two Australian premiers.

In its sixth year, the festival, which showcases the best in Australian and International cinema, will be held in September at the fully independent Deckchair Cinema across “eight tropical nights.”

“This is an incredibly exciting and compelling program of films. All are highly awarded and acclaimed films of numerous genres from 9 other countries; Brazil, India, Germany, Poland, Norway, France, Sweden, Iran, Guatemala and the USA;  Film fans are in for a good time.” says Hannah Brodie-Hall General Manager DIFF 2015.

DIFF 15 aims to encapsulate a plethora of perspectives and stories from around the globe, as well as provide a platform for the celebration of our rich cultural history.

Force of Destiny‘ will open the festival, taking viewers on a powerful journey through the trials and tribulations of “love on a liver transplant waiting list”. According to David Stratton, the film is “a moving and compassionate exploration of the human condition. David Wenham gives an exceptional performance.”

In its Australian premier, 1000 Rupee Note, is the story of an impoverished Indian woman whose life is transformed when she receives an anonymous donation. Her life suddenly changes from simple and monotonous to eventful – to say the least.

Awarded with the Jury Prize, Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival 2015 Silver Peacock, Best Feature Film & Special Jury Award, International Film Festival of India 2014 DIFF will be the first to screen the film in Australia.
