Celebrities on Valentine’s Day

Celebrities on Valentine’s Day
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, MiNDFOOD talks to a few celebrities to see what their plans are for the big day.

Nicholas Sparks, celebrated romance novelist responsible for such weepies as The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, The Last Song and the The Longest Ride, soon to hit the big screen as a film adaptation, once said, “Romance is thinking about your significant other when you’re supposed to be thinking about something else.”

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, MiNDFOOD talks to a few celebrities to see what their plans are for the big day.

Jennifer Lopez

“I have no plans for Valentine’s Day except to love myself.”

Shailene Woodley

“I am a big fan of spending Valentine’s Day alone, regardless of whether you are with someone or not. Spending it alone is so rad, to take that day and meditate on love which is really what Valentine’s Day is about, if you think about it. There is a lack of self-love and time for ourselves in our go, go, go-society.”

Shirley Maclaine

“Valentine’s Day is a pain in the butt.  That’s all I’ve got.”

Melissa McCarthy

“Valentine’s Day means I’ll make heart-shaped pancakes with the girls. And maybe my husband and I will go out to dinner but we’re not big Valentine’s Day people. We always say that we like each other all year round; we don’t need a special day. But when we do go out, we’re like 90 year olds. We’ll go out at 5 o’clock but we want to be home to put the kids to bed so that’s a very exciting night.”

Sigourney Weaver

“When we were young I used to make very elaborate Valentines but after 30 years of marriage I don’t do that anymore. And that’s mainly because they don’t sell that crazy stuff that they used to – the little doilies and all that stuff. But having said that, this year we are going to a beautiful place for Valentine’s Day and I was thinking of making him a beautiful Valentine to surprise him. And also, as we’re both in the business, it’s rare that we even get to spend even an anniversary together on the actual date or a birthday, let alone Valentine’s Day. But I think it’s nice to have a date with your spouse on Valentine’s Day. That’s about the extent to which we go to – after this many years it’s pretty good that we try to remember what that day it is.”

Hugh Jackman

“My basic rule on romance is that you have to have a bit of surprise. So, I try not to do exactly the same thing. I don’t want to tell you exactly what I do, but sometimes there’s more potency in sending the flowers on a random Tuesday, just because.”

Keri Russell

“As a mum of two kids, I’d like to sleep (laughs). But what I’ll probably do is make some handmade cards with the kids.”

Chris Hemsworth

“Every day is Valentine’s Day in my house (laughs). I try to be romantic; I make an effort, that’s all that counts, isn’t it? But honestly, when is Valentine’s Day?”
