This beautiful act of kindness is what the holidays are really about.

When most people win a shopping spree for their birthday their first thoughts consist of racing through aisles grabbing everything they can in their allotted time.

For Donna Goldstein, 99, her idea of a free shopping spree consisted of buying gifts for those in need.

During the shopping spree, Goldstein was given an hour to choose any items she wanted. Instead of loading up her trolley with gifts for herself, she began filling her bags with gifts and essential items, like toothbrushes and socks.

“I’m going to cry I’m so happy. I think that’s what it’s going to be,” Goldstein said as she filled her cart with Christmas goods.

This isn’t the first time that Donna has committed such selfless acts of kindness, she also organised Thanksgiving baskets to give to families in need earlier this year.

This generosity is one of the reasons why Goldstein was chosen as the recipient of the prize.

“Sometimes we don’t realize how much is needed. I feel bad that I can’t do it for everyone, but it makes me feel very good that I am able to do what I can,” Goldstein said.

Despite her generosity, the store owners wanted to celebrate her milestone by spoiling her as well. The staff baked Donna a cake, sang happy birthday to her and surrounded her in balloons.

The 99-year-old’s gifts will be distributed to children in need through her church this Christmas.
